Winter motorcycle maintenance tips for your Harley
With the cover and stand sorted, a little maintenance before winter storage will go a long way.
Battery care
Cold drains batteries faster than you’d think. A battery tender or trickle charger keeps it fully charged without overloading. If storing for months, remove the battery and keep it in a warm, dry spot indoors.
Wash and wax before storage
Salt, dirt, and grime can eat away at your Harley’s finish. Give it a deep wash, dry it completely, and finish with a coat of wax for an extra layer of protection. Don’t forget chrome parts. They need the most attention to avoid rust.
Fluids and fuel
Check your fluids before storage. Fresh oil and topped-off brake fluid reduce condensation damage. Add a fuel stabilizer to your gas tank to prevent it from breaking down over time. Run the bike for a few minutes to circulate the treated fuel.
Tire prep
Inflate tires to the manufacturer’s recommended PSI. If you’re not using a stand, move your bike a few inches every couple of weeks to prevent flat spots.
Lubrication
Lube your chain, cables, and pivot points. This prevents corrosion and keeps everything moving smoothly when you fire up the bike in spring.
